Frequently Asked Questions

Why Bespoke?

Off-the-rack suits are made for one body type, with no room for variation. At Cuff & Crease, we tailor the fabric perfectly to you and you alone. As an example, a 42” chest on an off-the-rack suit is going to be pretty even in the front and the back of the suit jacket. That doesn’t work for most bodies. Some of us have broader chests or stronger backs and the measurements should reflect that. We use a fully bespoke process to create a pattern exclusively for you, resulting in the perfect fit.

What fabrics do you carry?

Our shirt fabrics are sourced from Europe and Japan and our suit fabrics come from Italy, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. We are proud to carry the top fabric houses in the world, including: Dormeuil, Holland & Sherry, Gladson, Drago and Scabal. We constantly look for new and different patters, weights, weaves, colors, and textures to make the very best business suit or wedding suit that’s perfect for you. We have a wide selection of fabrics at different price points and can find just about anything.

How much will this cost?

Because we use a bespoke process, pricing can vary depending on the yardage needed to make the garment and the cost/yard of the fabric chosen. All starting prices are listed in the pricing section of our site. For a truly bespoke suit, you can’t beat our price. Yes, you can find a made-to-measure suit for less, but bespoke is truly special and can be adjusted in ways a made-to-measure suit can’t.

We understand that this is an investment, so our goal is for you to get the most possible wear out of your purchase. We will work with you to identify a fabric and pattern that fits your lifestyle in as many situations as possible. Our typical suggestion for your first piece is something that works well as a suit and separates.

How long does the process take?

Your first fitting takes around an hour. We’ll take 40+ measurements, go over your specific fit requests, and then we’ll help you design your garment(s). Turnaround time for production is 6-8 months weeks. That includes one or two fittings depending on the client. For a fee, we have the capability to do a “rush” order and can deliver in approximately 3 weeks (subject to season).

What is the difference between Custom, Made-to-measure, and Bespoke?

  • Custom: Custom can mean anything. Choosing a lining, lapel/vent/pocket styles, and buttons gives a suit maker the right to call it “custom.” Bottom line, “custom” means you’ve had some say in the design of the suit (even something as small as a button color), but the suit isn’t necessarily made for your body.

  • Made-to-Measure: This is a form of “custom” and means there are a number of symmetrical adjustments (+/-) in girth(s) and length(s) to a pre-existing pattern. Because of this, ‘made-to-measure’ adjustments are limited. They typically cannot make adjustments for shoulder slope, posture, or any significant asymmetrical irregularities in your body, which are common.

  • Bespoke: This refers to the process of creating a unique, original pattern specific to a client’s body structure. Unfortunately, the word “bespoke” has lost the impact it once had in the industry. Most custom clothiers will claim to deliver a bespoke garment, but nearly all of them use a made-to-measure process. Each of our clients experience a true bespoke process and product from start to finish. Not only do our clients choose each and every detail, but each garment suits each individual to exact specifications.  With bespoke clothing, everyone is able to see and (most importantly) feel the difference.
